Happy New Year ; 2007 !!
A new template for a new year. Oh wow, we’ve finally ushered in the New Year and it’s now 2007! I’ve turned 17 or will turn seventeen is approximately 3 months time (take note* haha). I guess you can say its exciting, but it won’t be exciting as turning 16 or turning 18 next year.
I thought that this year’s countdown would be the same as every other year, with me sitting in my bed at home, in my room watching people countdown at various places like sentosa or vivo city. However, at the very last minute, I went out to countdown instead. Haha, it’s quite sad now that I think about it. I’ve never counted down with friends before, unless you count those that I count down with online.
Made my way to Suntec after dinner to meet Ke Jun and Gary, and due to some MAJOR communication break down, I ended up at Marina while they were waiting at Suntec. We were supposed to have caught Death Note 2 in the late evening before counting down after the movie. However, seeing as how everything was probably too last minute, we couldn’t get the tickets in time. So in the end, the three of us ended up walking around Suntec and Marina until we finally settled down at Subway. But even at Subway, we they had trouble deciding where to eat. We moved from Subway over to Carl’s Junior and back to Subway again after comparing prices. We basically sat there from about 9.00 plus till 11.30. In the course of that 2 and a half hours, Yong Tat had come to join us too.
When it was nearly time to usher in the New Year, we tried to make our way to the Esplanade to watch the fireworks display. However, it seems harder to navigate at night, with more people than usual at the City Hall area and having police officers barricade certain paths to get to the Esplanade.
Eventually, we managed to squeeze our way through the crowd and get to the Esplanade in the nick of time to watch the fireworks display. It was really breathtaking, but it would have been even more breathtaking if there weren’t those stupid palm trees in the way blocking my view from some of the fireworks display. Wish I managed to take a photo or video or something. And of course, there were the foreign workers who were really freaking me out. They were holding hands for crying out loud, and they are really touchy people. I don't know, I just don't like them and I try to stay as far away from them as possible. I somehow have the impression that they are all gay. But at the same time, my label for them doesn't really stand because some of them actually rape women. Maybe its because no one really know what they are, so that's why theres the fear. Fear of the unknown, haha how language arts.
I kept my bag in front of me at all times while moving along with the crowd because my brother had warned me about pickpockets. Fortunately, I didn’t lose anything that night.
We stayed around after the fireworks to enjoy what’s left of the countdown while at the same time, waiting for the human flow to somewhat ease up before we made our way back to Suntec. There really wasn’t much to do, so we took a REALLY long walk back to Suntec, to settle down in Mac Donalds and rest for a bit.
It was around 1.30am when we left Mac Donalds and attempted to get home. This was where the nightmare started. We had walked to Bugis because there seemed to already be a lot of people waiting at Suntec for a cab. Somehow, a lot of the cabs seemed busy. They were either hired, on call or rushing to get home. We walked all the way from Suntec, to Bugis, to Fu Lu Shou complex, to some HDB area around Lavender just to hail a cab. Oh my god, it was the most traumatising albeit interesting experience I’ve ever had with a cab. No one and I mean NO ONE, wanted to stop and pick passengers up. The heartless little monsters, they just sped by us, one by one, and if I had counted, I would say close to a hundred cabs zoomed passed us.
And I’m not even exaggerating here, this is no hyperbole. Somehow, they didn’t seem to want to earn money on New Year’s day. Maybe its something superstitious? I don’t know, all I know is that we spent one and a half hours trying to get a fucking cab and we were desperate. It was 3.00am in the morning, we were tired and bored and irritated.Ke Jun even knelt down to beg cab drivers who just drove by. I was in somewhat of a delirious state, half an hour more out in the streets hailing for a cab and I might have just lost it. I might have just stopped a cab, pulled out the driver and shake him violently while screaming like an deranged lunatic “WHY WON’T YOU FETCH US!?”
Thankfully, that scene didn’t play up and we finally found a cab driver willing to fetch us to Yong Tat’s house to stay for the night. I managed to take down the cab's licence plate number. It's SHB 8648 Z. Those who want to buy 4D, please do. Haha.
Somehow even with all the running around to hail a cab, we still found the energy to stay up the entire night playing Mah-jong. Haha, I think I’ve improved and am improving because I only lost fifty cents this time. I’m not really good at mah-jong I realised.
We finally finished the game at like 7.00 in the morning. I went to look through Yong Tat’s year book and got myself amused at how certain people’s look have changed so drastically over the course of the years. People were starting to fall asleep, so I curled up on the floor and slept until about 10.00 before leaving the place. It was a long long long trip home and I fell asleep along the way so it wasn’t that bad. Got home at around 12.00 and slept some more before waking up to eat dinner, my first meal of the day, haha.
I’ve got more things planned for tomorrow and than its back to school. I decided to call my OGL since she hasn’t called me and it turns out that my handphone number has yet to be updated. So that’s why she couldn’t get to me. Damn, I have got to update my profile or something. I'm in some small OG which name I find almost impossible to pronunce. What the hell is IRIDESCENCE? At least Iago I can pronunce. IRIDESCENCE? And oh my god, we have to report in school uniform. Sianz. The thought of going back to school is both exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time. But that’s like 2 days from now.
So for now HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Eat, Drink, Laugh and be HAPPY, like him. Lol.
